Workers of the National Congress Party staged a strong protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office today. During the demonstration, party workers raised slogans demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and action against him.

Former Health Minister Banna Gupta also participated in the protest. Questioning the functioning of the Election Commission, he alleged that the commission was working as an agent of the BJP. He said the Election Commission was earlier known as a guardian of democracy, but claimed that under the current circumstances efforts were being made to weaken the democratic system.

Banna Gupta said Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge had demanded the removal of Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from office. He said Congress had continuously been raising questions about the functioning of the Election Commission and that the protest by party workers was part of these efforts.

During the demonstration, Congress workers raised slogans against the election commissioner and demanded his dismissal and imprisonment. The workers registered their opposition over the election process and the role of the Election Commission.

Congress leaders said the Election Commission has an important role in a democracy and that transparency and fairness in the electoral process should be ensured.
