New Delhi, September 24. The Supreme Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the bail plea of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Deepak Singla. The court has sought the investigating agency’s response to his petition in a money laundering case.
Deepak Singla was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on May 18 in connection with the money laundering case. Following his arrest, Singla approached the court seeking bail.
The Supreme Court has now issued a notice to the ED and sought the investigating agency’s position on the matter. During the further hearing, the ED may present its arguments and respond to the bail petition before the court.
The Enforcement Directorate investigates money laundering cases, while courts hear bail petitions on the basis of the facts of each case and the applicable legal provisions.
The case has also been discussed at the political level following Singla’s arrest. However, an arrest or action by an investigating agency does not by itself establish guilt. The final determination will be based on the judicial process.
Following the Supreme Court’s notice to the ED, attention will now be on the investigating agency’s response and the further proceedings in the case. The next hearing will provide greater clarity on the course of the bail petition.
