Bhopal: The deaths of more than 30 children from tribal areas of Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district have become a political issue. Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has targeted the state government led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav over the issue.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Madhya Pradesh government is the most corrupt and poorly governed government in the country. He also commented on Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, saying that if he had found time after lighting lamps and celebrating festivals, he should take stock of the ground situation in the state.

Health Crisis in Balaghat

Reports of the deaths of more than 30 tribal children in the Baihar-Birsa area of Balaghat over the past few months have emerged. Reports have said that cases of fever, infections and other health problems were reported in the affected areas. Questions have also been raised over malnutrition, anaemia and limited access to healthcare facilities.

In this matter, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices to the state government and the Balaghat Collector and sought a response. A public interest petition filed before the court has raised issues related to healthcare facilities and treatment of children in the affected areas.

The Congress has also held protests and organised a ‘Nyay Yatra’ over the deaths of children in Balaghat. The party has demanded assistance for affected families and accountability in the matter.

At present, an administrative inquiry and judicial process are underway regarding the causes of the children's deaths and the healthcare system in the affected areas.
