Following the completion of non-interlocking (NI) work at Birrajpur station, freight-related facilities in the Chakradharpur division are expected to receive a boost. According to the Railways, completion of the NI work will enable Birrajpur station to become one of the division’s major freight handling centres. This is expected to increase loading and unloading capacity and create new business opportunities.

The station mainly handles the unloading of commodities such as coal, iron ore and pellets. Changes made to the yard lines are expected to increase operational capacity and flexibility. This will help facilitate more organized movement of freight trains.

As part of the NI work, a new line has also been provided on the down side. According to the Railways, this new line will reduce the detention of coaching trains arriving from the Chandil side. This may help make passenger train operations smoother.

According to railway officials, improvements in yard operations will make the freight handling process more efficient. It will also help manage the time required for freight train operations more effectively.

The expansion of facilities at Birrajpur is also expected to have an impact on railway revenue. Increased freight-handling capacity could enable transportation of larger quantities of goods, potentially generating additional revenue for the Railways.

The Railways said that following the NI work, the station’s operational capacity and flexibility have increased. This is expected to accelerate freight handling as well as train operations and could make Birrajpur more important for freight transportation in the Chakradharpur division.
