Gumla (Jharkhand): A two-member high-level committee formed by the state government to investigate the alleged delay in providing medical treatment to a 13-year-old girl who was a victim of gang rape and assault visited Gumla and Simdega districts. The girl died while undergoing treatment.

An official said on Tuesday that the committee comprises Health Department Special Secretary Neha Arora and Jharkhand Armed Police Commandant Sarojini Lakra. The committee was formed on Sunday night after the victim died on Saturday. The two officials visited the place where the alleged crime took place in both districts on Monday.

The committee is investigating the alleged delay in providing treatment to the girl. She died on Saturday while undergoing treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi.

Gumla Superintendent of Police (SP) Haris Bin Zaman said the two-member committee visited the spot, spoke to the family and villagers, and examined health-related documents in Kolebira, Simdega and Gumla.

They returned to Ranchi on Monday evening and declined to make any statement.

According to a police complaint filed by the victim’s father at Palkot police station in Gumla on Friday, his daughter was found unconscious outside her home the previous night.

In his complaint, the father alleged that unidentified people gang-raped and brutally assaulted his daughter.

The father told the police, “The girl was taken to Simdega Sadar Hospital, but the doctors there referred her to Gumla. From Gumla Sadar Hospital, she was referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi for better treatment.”

Palkot Station House Officer Ankit Raj said the girl died while undergoing treatment at RIMS on Saturday.

He said, “The investigation is ongoing. The post-mortem report is not yet available. Therefore, no concrete statement can be made regarding the case.”
