Dehradun: Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNBUMU) is preparing to take a new step towards connecting healthcare services in Uttarakhand with modern technology. The university is preparing to launch a Digital Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based health course from the upcoming academic session. Through this special course, working doctors will be trained in the practical use of digital AI technology in the healthcare sector.

University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhanu Duggal said that the use of AI in the medical sector could play an important role in making healthcare services more effective in the coming time. She said that AI should be viewed not as a challenge for doctors but as a technology that can help provide better services to patients. Dr. Bhanu Duggal was appointed Vice Chancellor of HNBUMU in February 2026.

Benefits for Hilly Areas

The use of AI-based technologies could be particularly helpful in improving the reach and quality of healthcare services in the hilly and remote areas of Uttarakhand. According to experts, digital technology can make the analysis of medical information, research and patient-related data more effective.

Research Will Also Get a Boost

According to the Vice Chancellor, AI can also prove useful in accelerating research work in the medical field. The use of digital technology in data analysis, medical research and various healthcare processes can assist researchers and doctors.

Initiatives are also being taken in Uttarakhand to include AI at the level of higher education and technical training. In July 2026, ‘AI for All’ courses were launched for students of higher education institutions in the state.
