RANCHI: An important hearing is scheduled on Monday, September 21, in the Bargain land case involving Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren before the special PMLA court in Ranchi. The case concerns around 8.86 acres of land in the Bargain circle and alleged money laundering and irregularities related to the land. The court has directed Hemant Soren to remain present in the proceedings by 4 PM. He is scheduled to appear before the court through video conferencing.
The process of framing charges has already moved forward against several accused in the case. Following the latest court proceedings, a hearing is now scheduled regarding the framing of charges against Hemant Soren. On Saturday, charges were also framed against accused Raj Kumar Pahan. Earlier, charges had been framed against former IAS officer Chhavi Ranjan and other accused.
No Relief From High Court
Before the hearing, Hemant Soren did not receive relief from the Jharkhand High Court in the case. The High Court dismissed his discharge petition and refused to stay the proceedings before the lower court. Following this, the way was cleared for the process of framing charges to move forward in the special PMLA court.
What Is the Bargain Land Case?
The case relates to around 8.86 acres of land located in the Bargain area of Ranchi. The Enforcement Directorate has alleged that documents and revenue records related to the acquisition and possession of the land were allegedly manipulated. The investigating agency has linked alleged illegal possession, forged documents and transactions related to the land to the money laundering case.
Hemant Soren has opposed these allegations. His side has argued before the court that there is insufficient direct evidence against him. At this stage, framing of charges by a court does not mean that an accused has been found guilty. The final determination of guilt or innocence will be made after the judicial process is completed.
Attention is now focused on the September 21 hearing and the order that the special PMLA court issues regarding the framing of charges against Hemant Soren. The decision will indicate the next direction of the judicial proceedings in the case.
