New Delhi. The Delhi High Court has sought a response from Delhi University and the concerned candidates over allegations of victory processions following the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election results. The petition alleges that some winning candidates took out victory processions after the results were declared despite an earlier court order prohibiting such processions.

Voting for the DUSU elections was held on September 18, while the results were declared on September 19. The petitioner alleged that some winning candidates took out victory processions after the results and described the alleged conduct as contempt of court.

The Delhi High Court has asked Delhi University to respond to the allegations. The court also noted that all DUSU candidates had already been issued show-cause notices under its earlier order, including those who won the elections.

The court’s September 18 order had directed that no victory processions be held after the declaration of results, including on Delhi roads, university campuses and hostels. The order stated that violations could lead to criminal and administrative action and could also amount to contempt of court.

The matter concerns compliance with the rules governing the DUSU elections and the court’s directions. The position on the alleged violations is expected to become clearer after the relevant material and responses are placed before the court.
