New Delhi. A medical store in Delhi’s outer North Delhi area was raided over allegations of selling ‘pregabalin’ capsules without a doctor’s prescription. Delhi Police, along with the Drug Control Department, conducted a joint inspection of a medicine shop on Pipeline Road in the Pooth Khurd area on September 18.

According to officials, police received information that pregabalin was allegedly being sold from the shop to people who intended to misuse it for intoxication. During the operation, police sent a decoy customer to the shop. The customer allegedly attempted to purchase the medicine for ₹500 without a doctor’s prescription. Officials claim that the shopkeeper provided the capsules without a prescription and that the same amount was later recovered from him.

During the inspection, irregularities related to the shop’s drug licence were also reportedly found. According to officials, the licence displayed at the shop was valid until May 6, 2026, and no record of an application or fee payment for its renewal was found.

The Drug Control Department also found medicines belonging to Schedule H and H1 categories at the shop. However, officials said purchase bills, sales records and the prescribed registers were not available. A large quantity of expired medicines was also reportedly found, while information relating to manufacturing or expiry dates on some packets was allegedly covered with permanent marker. The shop also did not have a CCTV camera.

Pregabalin is primarily used for conditions including neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia and certain neurological conditions. Officials said the case is being examined for possible violations relating to the licence, purchase and sale of medicines, sale without prescription and maintenance of records. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
