New Delhi, September 25, 2026: The Delhi High Court has directed Delhi Police to decide within the prescribed timeframe on a request by bank employees seeking a designated venue for a protest at Jantar Mantar. The court asked the police to take a decision on the bank union’s request by September 28, 2026.

During the hearing, the bank employees’ organisation sought a designated place for holding the protest. The union said it needed an appropriate venue to peacefully raise issues concerning employees.

Considering the matter, the court directed the police to examine the union’s application and communicate its decision within the specified timeframe. The court’s direction is aimed at ensuring time-bound administrative action on the application related to permission for the protest.

Jantar Mantar is among the designated locations in Delhi for peaceful sit-ins and protests. However, aspects related to law and order, traffic and public convenience have to be considered during any protest. The bank employees’ union has raised the matter before the court at a time when the organisation is preparing to collectively raise various issues concerning its members. The next course of action will become clear after the police decide on the union’s request.
