Patna, September 26, 2026: Chief Justice of India Surya Kant made an important observation in Patna regarding students’ right to peaceful protest. He said courts would not ignore the right of students to peacefully express their views. During an event in Patna, the CJI also spoke about the role of the judiciary, the judicial system and various aspects of legal and judicial education.
The Chief Justice said that in a democratic system, peacefully presenting one’s demands and views is part of citizens’ rights. In the context of students, he said that if they peacefully express their views on an issue, the judiciary will take their rights into consideration.
He said the role of the judiciary is not limited to resolving disputes, but also includes upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens’ rights. His address also covered issues such as access to justice and institutional responsibility.
CJI Surya Kant also spoke about the importance of judicial education.
