FIFA has annulled the results of three international matches involving the Malaysia national football team after finding that ineligible players were fielded in those games, intensifying a major eligibility scandal engulfing Malaysian football.

Matches Affected and What Changed

The three games, all played earlier in 2025, have now been officially recorded as 3–0 defeats for Malaysia by FIFA’s disciplinary committee due to the eligibility breach. The results overturned include:

• A 1–1 draw against Cape Verde on May 29

• A 2–1 win over Singapore on September 4

• A 1–0 victory over Palestine on September 8
  In each case, Malaysia originally avoided defeat, but the matches have been forfeited and recorded as 0–3 losses under FIFA rules.

Why FIFA Took Action

In September, FIFA found that seven naturalised Malaysian players had participated in matches using false or forged documentation to claim eligibility, violating the governing body’s rules. These players were suspended for 12 months, and the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) was fined CHF 350,000 (around $438,200).

FIFA also rejected an appeal by FAM, which had challenged earlier sanctions, and is now pushing ahead with a formal investigation into the association’s internal procedures and documentation practices.
