New Delhi. Zinc futures prices rose on Monday amid increased demand in the spot market. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), the October delivery zinc contract rose ₹2.10, or 0.50%, to ₹419.20 per kg.
According to market data, 255 lots were traded in the October delivery zinc contract. Traders said increased demand in the spot market strengthened buying interest in zinc futures, supporting prices.
Zinc is one of the key metals used in the industrial sector. Its largest application is galvanising, which protects steel from corrosion. It is also used in construction, automobiles, infrastructure and manufacturing. Therefore, changes in industrial activity can influence zinc prices.
Available MCX market data for September 21 also showed strength in the September delivery zinc contract. During trading, the contract was around ₹433-435 per kg, while the October contract traded around ₹419.
Going forward, zinc prices may be influenced by spot demand, trends in global metals markets, industrial activity and supply conditions. Trader activity and changes in open positions can also affect futures prices.
Monday's rise is currently being attributed mainly to stronger spot-market demand and buying by market participants.
