Beijing/Washington: Chinese President Xi Jinping will make a state visit to the United States from September 23 to 25. China’s Foreign Ministry officially confirmed the visit on Monday. The visit is taking place at the invitation of US President Donald Trump.
According to China’s Foreign Ministry, Xi Jinping and Trump will discuss major issues related to China-US relations as well as matters concerning world peace and development.
The ministry also reiterated its commitment to strengthening dialogue and cooperation between the two countries and managing differences appropriately.
The visit is being viewed in the context of diplomatic engagement between the leaders of the two countries. China and the United States have faced differences in recent years over trade, technology and strategic issues.
Against this backdrop, the two leaders are expected to discuss economic and strategic issues linked to bilateral relations.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that reciprocal visits by the two leaders within around six months represent an important milestone in the history of China-US relations.
China has said it wants to work with the United States to increase dialogue and cooperation, better manage differences and advance the interests of people in both countries.
Xi Jinping’s visit comes at a time when discussions between China and the US on global trade, artificial intelligence, security and various international crises have gained importance. The upcoming talks between the two leaders will be closely watched internationally.
