Gudabanda: Panic spread at the Gudabanda block office premises in East Singhbhum district early Monday morning after a wild elephant entered an SFC rice warehouse. The incident reportedly took place around 3 am. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed at the location.

Elephant broke the shutter and entered the warehouse

According to the information, the elephant broke the warehouse shutter and entered the building before reaching the stored rice. The elephant ate some of the rice, while a larger quantity of grain was damaged. Around three sacks, or approximately 150 kg of rice, were reportedly damaged.

As soon as employees learned that the elephant was inside the warehouse, panic spread among the block office staff. A crowd soon gathered at the spot, after which employees began trying to drive the elephant out by making noise.

Elephant moved towards the forest after hearing the noise

After considerable efforts, the elephant came out of the warehouse and moved towards the forest. No injuries to any person have been reported in the incident.

Following the incident, the damaged shutter and the rice that had been destroyed were inspected. CCTV footage also recorded the elephant entering and remaining inside the warehouse.

The incident has once again raised concerns over human-elephant conflict and security arrangements in areas around forested regions such as Gudabanda.
