Muzaffarpur: Heavy shuttering at an under-construction flyover suddenly collapsed late Sunday night in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district. The incident took place near Majhauli Chowk in the Bochahan police station area on the Muzaffarpur-Darbhanga four-lane section of NH-27.

The shuttering reportedly collapsed between around 10 pm and 11 pm, creating panic at the site after a loud sound. Traffic and pedestrian movement on the road was relatively low at the time, which helped prevent a major accident. No injuries or deaths were reported.

After the collapse, debris and iron components from the construction work were scattered around the site. Local police and employees of the construction agency reached the spot after receiving information, and work to clear the debris and construction material from the road was started.

Local residents said that Majhauli Chowk remains heavily crowded during the daytime, with nearby shops and significant movement of people and vehicles from surrounding rural areas. They said a similar collapse during the day could have put many people at risk.

Following the incident, local residents raised questions about the quality of the construction work and safety arrangements at the site. They said safety standards need to be strictly followed because vehicles continuously use the four-lane highway.

The administration and the concerned construction agency have not yet provided detailed information about the actual cause of the collapse. The safety arrangements at the construction site and the reasons behind the incident need to be examined.

Although no casualties occurred because of the relatively low traffic late at night, the incident has raised concerns about safety arrangements around the under-construction flyover.
