Three people, including a minor, were killed and another youth was critically injured after a high-speed BMW crashed on Mumbai’s Coastal Road early Sunday morning. The accident took place at around 5:20 am on the route from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali.
According to police, the car had reached near Lotus Jetty in front of Lala Lajpat Rai College when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it crashed. The accident was severe, and all four occupants were immediately taken to hospital, where doctors declared three of them dead.
The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Shanay Gajjal and 17-year-old Dhairya Seth. The third deceased, believed to be around 25 years old, has not yet been identified. The injured youth, aged around 20, has been admitted to the hospital’s trauma ward and is reported to be in critical condition.
Police have started an investigation to determine the circumstances behind the crash. Initial information suggests that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle due to high speed.
Mumbai Coastal Road is an approximately 10.58-kilometre high-speed freeway connecting Marine Drive in South Mumbai with the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The early-morning crash has again brought attention to speeding and road safety.
