MUMBAI: Three young men were killed and another was seriously injured after a BMW car reportedly lost control and fell into an under-construction parking area on Mumbai’s Coastal Road early Sunday morning. According to police, the accident took place in the early hours.
Preliminary information suggests that the car was travelling at high speed on the Coastal Road when the driver lost control. The BMW went off the road and fell several feet into the under-construction parking area. The accident led to a rush at the spot.
After receiving information, police and rescue teams reached the location. All occupants were pulled out of the damaged vehicle. Three young men were declared dead, while another seriously injured person was taken to hospital, where treatment is underway.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Speeding is being considered a possible factor at this stage, although the exact circumstances will be established only after the investigation is completed.
Police are also trying to determine who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash and establish the identities of those travelling in the car. Evidence is being collected from the scene, and recordings from nearby cameras may also be examined.
Concerns regarding vehicle speeds on Mumbai’s Coastal Road have emerged from time to time. Police have appealed to motorists to follow speed limits and exercise caution while driving.
