NEW DELHI: A new rule for domestic LPG consumers is set to come into effect from October 1, 2026. Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) will be required for booking refills of subsidised domestic LPG cylinders. According to the government, the system is being introduced to ensure that the subsidy reaches eligible and genuine consumers.
As of September 19, 2026, around 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, or approximately 89.9% of customers, had completed Aadhaar biometric authentication. Consumers who have already completed the process will not need to authenticate again, and their LPG refill bookings will continue as before.
Consumers whose biometric authentication is still pending can complete the process with the help of the delivery staff during LPG cylinder delivery. They can also complete Aadhaar authentication by visiting their LPG distributor’s showroom or through the mobile app of the concerned oil marketing company.
The government says the system will help identify duplicate and ineligible connections and prevent the commercial or industrial use of subsidised domestic LPG cylinders.
However, consumers who do not complete biometric authentication will not stop receiving LPG. Such customers can continue to receive LPG cylinders at the market price without subsidy. To receive the subsidy benefit, they will first need to complete Aadhaar biometric authentication.
Therefore, LPG consumers who have not yet completed BAA should complete the process before October 1.
