Jadugoda-based young filmmaker Ravi Raj Murmu, who received the Golden Lotus honour at the 72nd National Film Awards, was felicitated at the BJP district office in Jamshedpur on Sunday. Party office-bearers and workers welcomed him for his notable achievement in Santali cinema.

The programme was presided over by Ramesh Baske, district president of the BJP Tribal Morcha. BJP metropolitan district president Sanjeev Sinha, along with several office-bearers and workers, was also present. Guests honoured Ravi Raj Murmu with a traditional stole and bouquets and congratulated him on his achievement.

Ravi Raj Murmu received the National Film Award for his Santali film ‘Aangen’. At the ceremony held on September 22, President Droupadi Murmu presented him with the prestigious honour. The national recognition received by a Santali film has been described as an important achievement for Jharkhand’s tribal community and regional cinema.

During the felicitation ceremony, speakers said that Ravi Raj Murmu had achieved national recognition after emerging from the small village of Kumirmuri. They said that producing a film in a regional language with limited resources and reaching the National Film Awards was an inspiring achievement for young filmmakers.

During the programme, Ravi Raj Murmu was also wished success for his contribution to local art and culture. Those present expressed hope that his success would help Santali-language films and movies based on local stories from Jharkhand reach a wider platform.

Rajiv Singh, Kusum Purti, Amar Singh, Shailesh Gupta, Kaju Shandil and Sanjay Munda, among several other workers and supporters, were also present at the felicitation programme.

Following his National Award, the felicitation ceremony reflected the local enthusiasm and sense of pride surrounding Ravi Raj Murmu’s achievement.
