Lahore: Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan could face further scrutiny after the Lahore High Court dismissed his petition challenging notices issued by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The court directed Rizwan to respond to the agency’s notice and appear before the NCCIA.

The matter was heard by Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aalia Neelum. Rizwan was represented by his lawyer Qazi Umair Ali, who questioned the jurisdiction of the NCCIA and the nature of the inquiry.

Rizwan Had Challenged NCCIA Notices

During the hearing, Rizwan’s lawyer Qazi Umair Ali told the court that his client had received notices from the NCCIA. Rizwan had approached the court challenging those notices.

Following the court’s decision, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has a role to play regarding any possible disciplinary action. Reports indicate that the board could consider whether to initiate disciplinary proceedings against senior players Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq. The PCB has been looking into disciplinary aspects related to the matter, while the NCCIA inquiry remains ongoing.

No final decision on disciplinary action has been announced by the PCB so far. Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq have been questioned by the NCCIA, while the agency is examining digital records and other aspects of the inquiry.

Following the Lahore High Court’s decision, the next steps in the matter will depend on the ongoing NCCIA inquiry and the PCB’s decision.
