Bokaro: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested a Chief Health Inspector posted in the Adra Division of South Eastern Railway (SER) on allegations of demanding a bribe in exchange for approving medical leave. The accused officer is reportedly posted in Bhojudih in the district.

According to the CBI, a case was registered on September 15 based on a complaint by a railway employee. The complaint alleged that the officer had demanded an undue amount of Rs 25,000 in exchange for approving medical leave.

After receiving the complaint, the CBI conducted a preliminary inquiry and laid a trap to catch the accused red-handed. The investigation agency’s team took action on Tuesday and allegedly arrested the accused officer red-handed while accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe from the complainant.

Following the arrest, the CBI team also conducted searches at the office and residential premises linked to the accused officer. According to the agency, the purpose of these searches was to collect additional documents and other evidence related to the case.

The CBI said that the accused officer will be produced before the competent court in Dhanbad as part of the further legal process. The investigation is still underway, and further action will be taken based on the facts that emerge during the investigation.

The CBI action in the case involving an alleged demand for a bribe in exchange for approving an employee facility such as medical leave has also sparked discussion in the railway department. However, the allegations will be finally established only after the completion of the judicial process and investigation.
