JAMSHEDPUR: A dispute during a Ganesh idol immersion procession in the Kashidih area under Sakchi police station late Sunday night escalated into a clash between two groups. The situation quickly turned into a fight and stone-pelting, leaving three young men injured. One of the injured is reportedly in serious condition and was referred to Tata Main Hospital for better treatment.
According to information, a Ganesh idol immersion procession had started from Kashidih Line No. 13. A DJ was playing during the procession and people were dancing. During this time, an argument broke out among some youths over giving way and the DJ. The dispute escalated and a scuffle began between the two sides.
It was reported that after some time, one side called additional youths to the spot. The two groups then allegedly clashed again. Reports also emerged of stone-pelting and an attack with a sharp-edged weapon. The DJ vehicle accompanying the immersion procession was also damaged during the disturbance.
Three youths were injured in the incident. They were taken to hospital for treatment. One of them reportedly suffered serious injuries to his head and face. After receiving initial treatment, he was referred to TMH for better care.
As soon as information about the incident was received, police from Sakchi and nearby police stations reached the spot with additional forces. Several alleged accused had reportedly left the area before the police arrived. Police seized the DJ vehicle being used in the immersion procession.
In view of the tension in the area, QRT and additional police forces have been deployed. Police have increased patrolling in sensitive areas and also conducted a flag march. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined to identify the accused. Some people have been named in the case, while the identities of other suspects are also being investigated.
Police said the situation in the area is currently under control. People have been urged not to pay attention to rumours and to maintain peace. Police are preparing to take legal action against those involved in the incident.
