New Delhi, September 18: An important step has been taken in India towards dengue prevention. Dr. Reddy's Laboratories has entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with Japan-based pharmaceutical company Takeda Pharmaceutical Company. Under the agreement, Dr. Reddy's will promote and distribute the QDENGA dengue vaccine in India's private market.

According to the company, the vaccine is expected to become available in India's private market in the first half of 2027, after completion of local regulatory processes.

Approved for People Aged 4 to 60

According to Dr. Reddy's, QDENGA received marketing authorisation from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) in July 2026 for people aged 4 to 60 years.

QDENGA is a live-attenuated tetravalent vaccine. It has been developed with the objective of providing broad immune coverage against the four major serotypes of the dengue virus—DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3 and DENV-4.

Vaccine to Be Given in Two Doses

According to the information available, QDENGA vaccination is administered in two doses. There is a three-month gap between the two doses.

The company has described it as the first dengue vaccine to receive approval in India. However, its availability in the private market will begin only after completion of local regulatory processes.
