Kakamigahara, September 26, 2026: India’s men’s hockey team defeated hosts Japan 2-0 to secure a place in the semifinals of the 2026 Asian Games. India faced a strong challenge from Japan in the Pool A match played in rainy conditions but scored at important moments to register its fourth consecutive victory.

Both teams played at a fast pace from the beginning. Although the rain made playing conditions challenging, Indian players attempted to maintain control of the ball. Japan made an aggressive start with the support of the home crowd and tried to put pressure on the Indian defence.

India gradually strengthened its control over the match. The team challenged the Japanese defence through short passes and quick attacks. India benefited from its efforts when Abhishek scored the opening goal to give the team a 1-0 lead.

The first goal boosted India’s confidence. Japan made several attempts to equalise, but the Indian defensive line played an important role in stopping its attacks. The goalkeeper and defenders prevented Japanese players from scoring on several occasions.

With the victory, India registered its fourth consecutive win in Pool A. Before the match against Japan, the Indian team had defeated Indonesia, Sri Lanka and South Korea in the tournament. India’s defence also delivered a strong performance against Japan, with the team finishing the match without conceding a goal.

The victory confirmed the defending champions’ place in the semifinals of the Asian Games hockey competition. India will now look to continue its winning run in the next match and move towards the final. The victory has generated excitement among Indian players and supporters.
