The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted a gold smuggling network operating across the country and seized 6.61 kg of gold worth more than ₹10 crore. The Ministry of Finance said on Monday that 11 people have been arrested in connection with the case.

According to the ministry, the DRI investigation uncovered an organised network that was transporting smuggled gold to different parts of the country through a courier network. The investigation revealed several important clues about the activities of the gang and its network.

According to the investigating agency, the network had been active for around nine months. During this period, information emerged that around 318 kg of smuggled gold worth approximately ₹475 crore had been transported through couriers.

During the operation, the DRI recovered 6.61 kg of gold, valued at more than ₹10 crore. In addition, 11 people allegedly involved in the case were arrested. The agency is now investigating the network, its method of operation and the role of other people connected to it.

According to the Ministry of Finance, further aspects of the smuggling network are being examined as the investigation progresses. The agency is also trying to determine where and for what purpose the gold transported through the smuggling network was being used.

The DRI action is being viewed as a major operation against illegal gold smuggling in the country. Further investigation is underway, and action against other people linked to the network remains possible.
