Nagoya. India’s Quimsi D’Souza came close to winning a medal in teqball but suffered defeats in two consecutive bronze-medal matches on Sunday. Despite playing the two contests just five minutes apart, the 24-year-old put up a strong fight in both matches but narrowly missed out on a medal.

In the women’s singles bronze-medal match, Quimsi faced Japan’s world No. 7 player Yuina Sakamoto. The Indian player mounted a strong challenge in both games but lost the closely contested match 0-2 (11-12, 11-12). Both games were decided by just one point, highlighting how closely fought the contest was.

Just five minutes after the singles match ended, Quimsi returned to the same arena. This time, she partnered with Mohammad Anas Baig in the mixed doubles bronze-medal match against Vietnam’s Hoang Minh Tan Nguyen and Gia Nghia Trinh.

However, the Indian pair could not secure a medal in the second contest either. The Vietnamese pair defeated Quimsi and Anas Baig 0-2 (9-12, 6-12) to claim the bronze medal.

Teqball is still considered a relatively new sport in India, but Quimsi’s performance in the competition highlights the possibilities for Indian players in the sport. Despite having very little recovery time between the two matches, she remained competitive in both contests. However, losing both matches after coming close to the medal positions left India disappointed.
