Jamshedpur. Armed criminals carried out a robbery at Canara Bank in the Golmuri police station area of Jamshedpur on Thursday morning. The incident, which took place shortly after the bank opened, created panic in the area. According to preliminary information, around five to six armed men entered the bank and took the employees present there under their control.

The criminals allegedly threatened the bank employees at gunpoint and gained access to the chest and locker. They then fled from the spot with more than ₹42 lakh in cash kept in the chest and a large quantity of gold jewellery stored in the locker.

The incident reportedly took place at around 9:15 am. Banking operations had just begun at the time, while cleaning work was also underway on the premises. The sudden entry of armed men into the bank caused panic among the employees. Police were informed after the criminals left the premises.

As soon as information about the robbery was received, Golmuri police and senior officers reached the spot. Police inspected the bank premises and questioned employees about the incident. CCTV footage from the bank and surrounding areas is being examined to identify the criminals and trace their movements.

Police are also trying to determine the route used by the criminals to reach the bank and the direction in which they fled after the robbery. Investigations are also being conducted in nearby areas. The major robbery has also raised questions about security arrangements at the bank.

The police investigation is currently underway, while a detailed assessment of the total value of the cash and jewellery stolen is being carried out.
