Etah: Panic spread in Uttar Pradesh's Etah district after the bodies of a young man and his sister-in-law, who had been missing for nine days, were recovered from the Hazara Canal. The bodies were recovered from the canal in the Mirhachi police station area on Thursday. According to police, the bodies were found tied together.

The deceased were identified as 30-year-old Krishna Kant and 24-year-old Priyanka Kumari, residents of Manauta village in Kasganj district. Both had gone missing on September 8 from near the Hazara Canal in the Nadrai area.

Brother Had Received a Call at Midnight

According to police, before going missing, Krishna Kant called his brother Pankaj Kumar at around 3 am. During the call, he said that both of them were near the canal and were thinking about jumping into it. Some time after the conversation, both their mobile phones were switched off.

After receiving information from the family, police launched a search operation around the canal. During the search, both their purses, clothes, jewellery, cash and other belongings were recovered from the spot. With the help of the PAC flood relief unit, a search was conducted in the canal for several days using boats, but no trace of the two was found.

Locals Reported Finding the Bodies

On Thursday, local residents in the Mirhachi area saw two bodies in the canal and informed the police. Police reached the spot and had both bodies taken out. The family later identified them.

The family ruled out the possibility of suicide and suspected murder in the incident. However, police said that the actual cause of death will become clear only after the post-mortem report is received.

Mirhachi Station House Officer Videsh Rathi said the bodies had been sent for post-mortem. The case is related to Kasganj district, where an FIR had already been registered. Mirhachi police completed the post-mortem process for the bodies. The report will be sent to the concerned police station.
