Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in Bihar launched a major search operation on Tuesday in connection with an alleged disproportionate assets case. Simultaneous searches were conducted at four locations linked to Kamlesh Kumar, General Manager (Technical) of Bihar State Building Construction Corporation Limited.

Kamlesh Kumar is reportedly a native of Vaishali district.

According to the EOU, a case has been registered against Kumar over allegations of acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. During the investigation, the agency reportedly found prima facie evidence of assets worth around ₹3 crore 12 lakh 51 thousand beyond his known and legitimate income. This amount was stated to be approximately 103.30 per cent higher than his known income.

Action after search warrant from court

The EOU registered an FIR under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.

Following this, a search warrant was obtained from the Special Court (Vigilance), Patna. Separate teams led by officers of Deputy Superintendent of Police rank were then sent to conduct the searches.

Four locations searched by EOU

Searches began simultaneously at four locations on Tuesday morning:

• Vaishali: Kumar’s ancestral residence in the Jandaha police station area.

• Patna: A flat at Manmohan Apartment in SK Puri.

• Patna: Megha Building on Road No. 25C in Rajiv Nagar.

• Office: The General Manager’s office room at Bihar State Building Construction Corporation Limited.

During the searches, EOU teams examined various documents, property-related papers and records connected with financial transactions.

Officials have not yet released detailed information about what was recovered during the searches.

According to EOU officials, further information will be released after the search operations at all four locations are completed and the documents and other material recovered are examined.

The documents and financial records found during the searches are expected to help determine the direction of the investigation into the alleged disproportionate assets case. Further legal proceedings will become clearer after the EOU completes its action.
