Indian cricket team selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar has decided not to extend his tenure as chief selector. According to reports, Agarkar has informed senior officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his decision.

Agarkar’s current tenure is scheduled to end on October 4, 2026. Following the BCCI’s 95th Annual General Meeting, the board’s office-bearers have been authorised to take a decision regarding his future. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the board still has time to take a decision.

Agarkar took charge as chairman of the men’s senior selection committee in 2023. Following his departure, the BCCI will have to begin the process of appointing a new chief selector.

Various reports have cited different possible reasons behind Agarkar’s decision, but the BCCI has not publicly disclosed any detailed official reason for his decision. Therefore, those reasons should currently be viewed as claims made in reports and by sources.
