Dehradun: The relief and rescue operation to evacuate mountaineers stranded in the high Himalayan areas of Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, due to bad weather resumed on Tuesday. After the weather improved, 16 more mountaineers and porters were safely evacuated with the help of helicopters.
According to officials, rescue operations were carried out on Tuesday morning in the Kalindi Khal and Mount Jogin areas. Eight mountaineers and porters each were safely evacuated by helicopter from both locations.
Rescue Operation Had Been Halted Due to Bad Weather
The relief and rescue operation had earlier been affected due to bad weather in the high Himalayan areas. Low visibility and adverse weather conditions in high-altitude areas also create difficulties for helicopter operations. After the weather cleared, the rescue team resumed the operation.
People Evacuated From Kalindi Khal and Mount Jogin
According to officials, helicopters conducted operations in the Kalindi Khal and Mount Jogin areas on Tuesday morning. Eight mountaineers and porters stranded at each location were safely evacuated. In this way, a total of 16 people were brought out on Tuesday.
Rescue Is Challenging in High-Altitude Areas
The high Himalayan areas of Uttarkashi are extremely difficult to access. Weather conditions change rapidly here, and relief and rescue operations become challenging due to the altitude. Therefore, favourable weather conditions are extremely important for evacuating people by helicopter.
After the weather cleared on Tuesday, the helicopter operation was restarted, which helped in evacuating people stranded in the affected areas.

According to officials, the objective of the relief and rescue operation is to bring mountaineers and porters stranded in difficult areas due to bad weather to safe locations. After 16 people were safely evacuated on Tuesday, there has been significant progress in the rescue operation.
